Silk Blankets Are Like A
Dream Come True
When I grew up, we had simple
wool blankets. My mother was quite a decorator, but she had a very
particular taste. She loved American Gothic for lack of a better phrase.
She did not preserve an ostentatiously frontier look to her house, but
everything was very simple and straightforward. All of the furniture was
made with clean lines, all of the bedding was made with rugged stitching
and straightforward materials, and all of the food was cooked out of
simple ingredients to be healthy, nutritious, and fairly tasty.
Silk blankets were something she never would have dreamt of, but the
first time that I tried them, I fell in love with them. If you have
never used silk sheets or blankets, you have really missed out. Nothing
feels like silk the first time it is against your skin. I stayed over
once at the house of a friends who was somewhat of a dot com nouveau
riche. She was making money faster than she could spend it, and spending
money on many things that she didn't need. Nonetheless, rather than
throwing away her money on expensive cars or yachts, she bought good
housewares instead. She had Egyptian silk blankets, handmade clothing,
and the finest knives that money could buy. She was an excellent cook,
and was putting her money to good use in buying truly gourmet
ingredients. Nonetheless, sleeping with a silk blanket was the highlight
of my trip. It was truly an exquisite experience.
Although I did not have the money that she did, I resolved to get silk
blankets of my very own when I left that house. I knew that you could
get an imitation silk duvet cover and that it provided a fairly good
facsimile, but nevertheless I wanted the real thing. If I couldn't get
silk blankets, I would always miss them. I knew that it was not an idle
waste of money – it was something that would give me increasing comfort
in my personal life. Having silk blankets would make me sleep better
than I had ever slept before.
I saved up a little bit of money and went out and purchased a set of
silk blankets. They were a dream come true. I thought at first that,
after a week, I would get used to them and they would be just another
thing that I took for granted. It was not so. To this day, I treasure
those silk blankets.
